A Letter of Self-Care
Written by Suzanne Graham
You’re living in a fast-moving world right now led by technology and a high need to make something of yourself. There can be this anxiety that as soon as you take a break the world will take off without you. That the act of self-care is virtually impossible and seemingly unrealistic because there is still so much to do.
But self-care is possibly more important now than it ever has been.
Why? Because it is easier than ever to lose yourself in the rush. When you lose yourself, what then do you become? In a way, you could be just a piece in an ever working system. So taking steps back to connect with your center is more about reminding yourself that you have only one life and what are you going to do with it besides be a cog within a bigger machine?
This doesn’t mean that you have to stop being practical. It just allows you to indulge with your ideals – the part of you that makes you human.
There are many different forms of self-care so it is important to find out what works best for you. That includes knowing the worth of your emotions. In fact, our emotions tell us a lot of information before our minds can reason them out. For example, if you’re feeling happy, that often means that everything in life is going the way it should; but if you become angry, something fundamental is wrong and should be addressed. Therefore, if you’re angry or sad about something, don’t be afraid to reach out. Someone will listen and support you, you just need to take that vital first step.
So please, as the rest of the year comes to a close and we approach the future, remember to take care of yourself.
