September Vibes

Written by Suzanne Graham

When I think of September, I think of wisdom, valor, and faith. These three traits derive from the symbolism of the month’s birth flower, Aster. Therefore, cause it seems I love lists so much, I have pulled together five quotes from books I love that I feel embody these three traits.

1. Haruki Murakami, Kafka on the Shore

“Closing your eyes isn’t going to change anything. Nothing’s going to disappear just because you can’t see what’s going on. In fact, things will even be worse the next time you open your eyes. That’s the kind of world we live in. Keep your eyes wide open. Only a coward closes his eyes. Closing your eye and plugging up your ears won’t make time stand still.”

2. Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“I always marvel at the human’s ability to keep going. They always manage to stagger on even with tears streaming down their faces.”

3. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, The Hound of the Baskervilles

“It may be that you are not yourself luminous, but you are a conductor of light. Some people without possessing genius have a remarkable power of stimulating it.”

4. Marie Lu, Champion

“You drive me insane… You’re the scariest, most clever, bravest person I know, and sometimes I can’t catch my breath because I’m trying so hard to keep up. There will never be another like you. You realize that, don’t you? Billions of people will come and go in this world, but there will never be another like you.”

5. Natsume Soseki, Kokoro

“I do not want your admiration now, because I do not want your insults in the future. I bear with my loneliness now, in order to avoid great loneliness in the years ahead. You see, loneliness is the price we have to pay for being born in this modern age, so full of freedom, independence, and our own egotistical selves.”

I have a huge admiration for all these authors and I highly recommend checking them out! Another suggestion I have is to check out Alive Vibe’s recurring events! After scrolling through the blog and enjoying the one-time events offered, there is still so much left to explore.

Hope to see you soon!
